School Information
The goal of Light and Life Christian School is to provide a quality education from a Christian perspective. Therefore, teaching is based on the truths revealed in the Bible, and students learn how to apply those truths in all areas of study. In addition to academic skills, students are taught key principles of Christian conduct and character such as obedience to parents and teachers, respect for authority, self-discipline, and an appreciation of our American heritage.
Academic Curriculum
The curriculum of Light and Life Christian School follows the state-suggested guidelines. It is designed to meet the needs of the whole student: spiritual, physical and social, as well as academic. It is highly individualized and provides a strong program in basic skills such as reading, mathematics, and language. Bible is taught as a separate subject and is integrated throughout the entire course of study. The curriculum is evaluated periodically to ensure that it continues to meet, or exceed, state and local requirements.
Bible Curriculum
The teachers at Light and Life Christian School teach from the conviction that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative Word of God, and the rule for life and conduct of humankind. The ultimate purpose of the school is to lead young people to a knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and to promote their spiritual growth. All teaching is done in accord with Scripture. Bible study, Scripture memorization, and weekly chapel services are important components of student life.
Special Events
In addition to regular field trips, students look forward to exciting trips during their years at Light and Life Christian School. One trip explores California history in Sacramento and the Gold Rush territory. Another trip provides an opportunity to learn about God's creation while sleeping three days in the Angeles National Forest. All trips are conducted by professional tour organizations specializing in school trips.
History
The school was established in 1954 by Foothill Community Church as a ministry to provide Bible-based education to families with children two years of age through sixth grade. In 1988 the school relocated from Duarte to Azusa, California. As an arm of the Foothill Community Church, the school ministers to all children, regardless of race, color, gender, or national and ethnic origin. Classes are conducted in modern, air-conditioned buildings which are nicely appointed and handsomely landscaped. A well-stocked library and state-of-the-art computer lab are important resources for students and teachers.
Affiliation
Light and Life Christian School is one of thirteen Light and Life Schools operating in Southern California and a member in good standing of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). As part of ACSI, students experience the enrichment of other Christian schools by participating in speech meets, spelling bees, music festivals and similar events. ASCI also provides an ongoing training and support program for teachers, administrators, and staff members designed to ensure excellence in every area of the school's program.
